The WHRN2026 Organising Team warmly invites all WHRN members and friends to present, lead, facilitate, or co‑present a workshop at WHRN2026.

This is a wonderful opportunity to share your expertise, collaborate with fellow WHRN members, and contribute to an engaging and practical symposium program. If you’re interested in being involved, please indicate your preferred workshop topic and provide a brief overview of your background by completing the form below.
 
All workshops will be 90 minutes in duration and will be held on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, as part of the WHRN2026 Symposium in Orange, NSW.

About the Workshops

Workshop 1

Co‑designing Health Equity: Partnering with Rural and First Nations Communities
Focus: Practical approaches to community‑led and First Nations–led research
Strongly aligns an emphasis on community and consumer‑led research and First Nations health and wellbeing
Suggested Format: Interactive yarning circles, case studies from Western NSW, and ethical decision‑making scenarios
Take-home: Tools to move beyond consultation toward genuine shared ownership of research.


Workshop 2

From Innovation to Impact: Scaling Rural Models of Care
Focus: Translating pilot programs into sustainable rural health services
Directly addresses models of care and health equity across dispersed populations
Suggested Format: Short presentations + facilitated group work mapping barriers and enablers
Take-home: A practical framework for scaling and sustaining rural innovations


Workshop 3

Strengthening the Rural Health Workforce Through Research
Focus: Research‑informed solutions to recruitment, retention, and training
Aligns with the rural workforce, education and training stream
Suggested Format: Panel + workshop with clinicians, educators, and early‑career researchers
Take-home: Evidence‑based strategies participants can apply in their own regions


Workshop 4

Digital Health, AI and Equity in Rural Settings
Focus: Leveraging digital tools while avoiding new inequities
Speaks to innovation while critically examining access, literacy, and infrastructure challenges in rural communities
Suggested Format: Demonstrations, small‑group problem solving, and ethics discussion
Take-home: Principles for implementing digital health solutions equitably in rural areas


Workshop 5

Mental Health Equity in Rural and Remote Communities
Focus:Culturally safe, place‑based mental health research and services
Directly aligned with the mental health research stream and equity focus
Suggested Format: Case studies from Western NSW and Far West NSW, with consumer voices
Take-home: Research‑to‑practice insights for improving access and outcomes


Workshop 6

Doing Research That Matters: Measuring and Demonstrating Equity Impact
Focus:Evaluation methods that capture real‑world equity outcomes
Supports WHRN’s mission to improve outcomes, not just outputs, across rural settings
Suggested Format: Hands‑on workshop using logic models and equity‑focused indicators
Take-home: Practical evaluation tools for grants, reports, and policy translation
