A reference group for a rural disability research community of practice

Approving HREC: N/A – Approval Number: N/A

Study overview:
The ARHEN Rural Disability Research Community of Practice (CoP) is a group of 30 rural-based academics with a research interest in disability. Supported by the Australian Rural Health Education Network, the CoP includes researchers from across Australia.

We are seeking expressions of interest from people who live in rural areas and have lived experience of disability as either a person with a disability or a carer for someone who has a disability. We would like to develop a reference group of people who can co-design and guide the CoP about their research initiatives.

The reference group members would be asked to attend approximately 4 online meetings to discuss disability research in rural areas.
– You do not need to have any research experience to participate.
– You will be paid for your time and expertise.
– We will work with you to provide any accommodations or support you might need to participate.

Target population:
People who live in a rural area in Australia and identify as having a disability or are a carer for someone with a disability.

What does participation involve?
We are planning to hold 5 meetings between July and November, each lasting approximately 90 mins (with breaks). There is also some provision for preparation time before meetings.

At each meeting, we will discuss research initiatives that could benefit people with disabilities living in rural Australia.

We will pay for the time and expertise of our reference group. We will also work with you if you require support or accommodations to facilitate participation.
